Why do keys stick in locks?
There’s many causes of keys getting stuck inside locks. Your key may have gotten worn down and lost its shape, which would necessitate the use of a brand new key after the stuck key is removed. Keyhole Lubrication
A common cause of stuck door keys are improperly lubricated door locks. If the keyway has no lubrication, the dryness will cause increasing friction that can grip the key and refuse to let og. Build up of rust and grime can also cause issues that lubricant can help loosen. Apply graphite lubricant with a small straw nozzle into the keyhole. NEVER use oil based lubricant or WD40 on locks as they can attract grime and solidify.
Temperature Lock Contraction
Tri contracting the lock’s metal using ice. Hold an ice pack against the keyhole edge for around a minute. This can help contract the metal and free key teeth from lock pins it might be stuck into.then try to juggle nad pull out the key,
Lock Defrosting
Try defrosting frozen locks by spraying it with de-icer spray or a mixture of 3:1 white vinegar and water. You can also blow warm air from a hairdryer towards the lock or holding a lighter near the lock. Then wriggle the key and gently try to pull it out.
Keyway Plugs
Plugs are the circular section surrounding a keyway. When plugs loosen, they become improperly aligned, and move inside the cylinder, which often happens if a key is left inserted in a lock, which then makes it so that the key cannot properly move around. Fix it by inserting the key into the keyhole as far as possible and then pushing on the plug while wagging and twisting the key while pulling it outwards. Just don’t do this too hard to avoid causing any damage in this process.
